What Is Your Waist/Hip Ratio?

The waist to hip ratio measurement is calculated by dividing your waist circumference by your hip circumference and is helpful in identifying abdominal fat levels. High abdominal fat levels are associated with a high risk for diseases such as hypertension, type II diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Enter below your current waist and hip measurements in inches. Then use the "standards chart" on the right hand side of the screen to determine the appropriate waist to hip ratio level for your age and gender range that would put you at low risk. Enter this number in the Waist to Hip Goal box to see what your waist goal should be. This calculated waist goal assumes that you lose no girth around your hips.

How to perform measurements

Your waist is measured at the narrowest place between your ribs and hips; usually near the height of your belly-button. Your hips are measured at their widest spot which is usually near the base of your pelvis.
